Ceiling Domes—250
words
Laura Evans
What are ceiling domes? Ceiling domes are used to accent
chandeliers or other ceiling light fixtures. Some people
like to install ceiling domes for purely decorative purposes
without light fixtures to give their ceilings “texture.” Unlike
ceiling medallions, ceiling domes are usually recessed.
Ceiling domes are also usually larger than ceiling medallions.
Ceiling domes are made from materials including plaster,
fiberglass, and urethane. Domes come in many styles that
will fit into the interior design of your home and in enough
sizes so that you can pick out the perfect ceiling domes
for any room in your house.
Ceilings today are underutilized. If you were to go into
any fine Victorian home, you would be entranced by patterns
on ceilings and ornate ceiling domes or medallions. The
ceiling’s appearance would subtlety change as the
light changes in the house from dawn to dusk. At night,
candles would light up rooms, flickering light and shadows
back and forth over ceiling domes and other architectural
accents. Ceilings today are downright boring.
