Decorative crown is the term used for the ornamental crown
moulding used to add architectural flavor to a room with ordinary
walls and ceilings. Decorative crown is typically applied either
at the point where the ceiling meets the wall, or just below
that seam along the wall. It is a strip of styled moulding
that decorates the top of the room along its perimeter.
There are many designs for decorative crown, both with regard
to the nature of surface coverage and with regard to the
ornamental styling applied to the face of the moulding. Some
decorative crown designs will mount on the wall just below
the ceiling, and then be designed to rise and cover perhaps
two or three inches of the ceiling, along its edge. Other
designs are the reverse, covering just the edge of the ceiling
but extending down the wall for an inch or two or perhaps
more. The surfaces of these decorative crown designs will
curve, bend and perhaps turn at a direct angle from side
to side, ending up with surfaces that align with both the
wall and the ceiling. There is a multitude of options, in
both geometric and curvaceous styling.
